Interesting posts since I am really considering the FPace, especially after test driving on a custom circuit from a local dealer. First, great sports car feel to drive, and it's a SUV. My wife's Audi Q5 is also a great car to drive, but lacks the ooomph, that the FPace has in spades. The Q5 is so comfortable, almost compares to my Jag portfolio. I did previously own a SUV, the Evoque, really HATED that one. Turned it in after a year on a 3yr lease.
Test drove the MBenz newest GLC. Gorgeous interior, smooth ride. Not sporty as the FPace. Would love to test drive with the AMG engine that supposedly will be an option down the road. My lease expires in May. The sQ5 and the GLC AMG will not be available by my date.

So I am 'Stuck' with only one choice, the FPace. It's a tough position to be in ;-)

Hi Tony,

I tested the GLC AMG (Merc Laval), and it is very very similar to the SQ5, couldn't tell them apart in regards of perf., other than the AMG being more pricy and noisy.

BTW my SQ5 is on sale ;)

Isn't there a restyled SQ5 coming for 2018?
Yes it will be delivered mid 2017 in Germany, most probably the year after in North America.

My Audi dealer contacted me about it... but too late the F-Pace stole my heart lol

Take a close look at the Audi in profile. There is practically no space between the back of the rear seat & the hatch. I mean what a joke, what are you going to carry without folding the seats down, a couple bags of groceries?

Yes in sports mode and S. The SQ5 is still much quicker.

But the Fpace makes an amazing sound, if you play with the shift paddles, you can even make the exhaust "pop" which is impossible in the SQ5 as system will not let you do (It will force the gear change).
According to Car & Driver, the 2017 Audi SQ5 is not quicker than the F-pace S 0-60 time .
F-Pace 5.1 vs SQ5 5.3. So who ya gonna believe?
Also, exhaust popping can be done in any high performance V-8 with a free flowing exhaust system.
I know because my last car, a 2010 Camaro SS did that just by blipping the engine a bit in neutral or when gearing down.

I tested the GLC 300 at the same dealer. The exterior look was ordinary. Put it next to an Audi, or Lincoln and you have to concentrate to tell the difference between the three. Not a head turner, in my opinion.

I liked the gorgeous interior of the GLC, nicer I think than the F-Pace.

What really turned me off was the laptop type control and mouse used to choose options. The engineers that thought this up should re-consider ease of use and safety when using this system. We have strict laws against texting and use of phones in cars. The Merc system is way more distracting than the use of a mobile phone. Frankly it should be outlawed. Imagine using a laptop mouse in a car while you are driving. Nuts.

The Jag has a touch screen that makes sense. You point your finger to a button on a screen instead of a physical button. Way less distracting. Plus, the Jag let's you customize the screen buttons so that have the ones you use the most often on the 12.3" screen. See Peter's thread back in July.

THe SQ5 "feels" quicker... I guess.

in my book, the GLC is an exact copy of the Q5, its flattering for the 6+ years old Q5, but seriously like you said not a head turner.

I have to disagree with you on the usability of a wheel vs touch screen. The whole point of the wheel (as used in MB, BMW and Audi) is that many control actions don't require looking at the system. After using it a few times, you know what is next, move left, rotate 2 clicks and select (or whatever). Every single action on a touch screen requires you to take your eyes off the road and watch your finger as it slowly approaches the desired location and eventually touches the screen (and hope you don't hit a little bump, let alone a car that just cut you off). This is why texting and driving is so dangerous, but on a phone, you don't have to reach across a console to get to the screen. IMO a selector wheel and a few buttons that can be found by feel are significantly easier and safer to use than a touch screen while driving a car.

Now the little finger pad POS that Mercedes uses doesn't work well at all, and was poorly designed/implemented. However, you don't need to use it.

I agree, the touch screen is cool when stopped... but the wheel is way better to do the stuff you're used to (except entering an address).

SQ5 definitely feels quicker and I would argue it probably is quicker than the F-Pace. Even my wife has commented on how the acceleration feels quicker to her in the SQ5 than in the F-Pace.

I've come to find the times on www.zeroto60times.com to be pretty accurate. They have the SQ5 listed as 5.1 and the F-Pace listed as 5.3 for the Premium and 5.1 for the S (might have those reversed though).

I am biased against click wheels because of my previous BMW that required six clicks to change from a FM station to a AM station. You still have to look at the screen and coordinate your finger, number of clicks, right or left and make sure you have selected your desired selection. I guess my memory is like a sieve having to coordinate all that while driving. With a touch screen you just have to look where your finger touches the screen. In both cases you have to look at the screen. One day they will come up with a perfect interface like Jobs did with the iPhone who's interface was adopted across so many devices, including cars.

Malek, your cars are very sharp looking. However, the F-Pace S could benefit from a set of 22 inch summer tires, even though it will have to wait till Spring. It would look really hot with 22 inch summer Pirelli Zeros mounted on all-black Double Helix wheels. Totally kick-a$$.

I decided against the 22 this time around to gain some comfort (my 21 on the SQ5 were brutal).

And my F-Pace is a rental, no need to put some money into it anymore that I have to pay for the lease $$$$
