Just had my ‘17 F-Pace S in for a coolant leak at the oil cooler. They replaced the oil cooler but broke the Symposer tube/pipe while doing the repair leading to a vacuum leak. Of course they want to charge me to replace the Symposer and labor too which is ridiculous since they broke the tube while repairing something else. Best they would do is offer to split the price for the part and labor and I am just having the Symposer completely taken out and a plate to block off the fitting and foregoing the in cabin sound enhancement but never having to worry again about a vacuum leak from that source.
What a PITA😳
Way to lose future customers and returning customers because the dealer isn’t willing to eat the repair on something they damaged during service.

That is kind of crap, they broke it, I agree they should make it the way that it was before you came in at no cost to you.

As someone who wrenches on their own cars, I see both sides of this issue. While removing parts to access the parts you’re trying to replace, things can break. Why do they break? It could be the part isn’t designed to handle the pressure and forces you’re putting on it trying to maneuver it out of the engine bay, especially after being exposed to years of heat cycles and usage. This happens to the most skilled technicians. It could also break if the tech is careless and rushing which sucks for the customer.

It’s difficult to determine whether the broken part is due to bad luck or carelessness, but the dealer splitting the cost with you sounds pretty fair IMO.

I understand that there is the possibility that because of age and exposure to constant heat/cold cycles that parts can become brittle and break. The thing that likely bothered me and made this secondary issue more frustrating is that during the pressure test to find where the leak was originating from, a totally different plastic pipe “popped off” at the fitting and needed to be replaced during the leak repair which I was also charged for. So, 2 plastic pipes/tubes damaged during a repair that were charged to me? That is the primary reason I decided to go with the block off of the Symposer pipe to fix the vacuum leak so the issue doesn’t happen again at a later point in time.
As a side note, I hear no change in the engine noise to the cabin without the Symposer pipe in place. Ultimately, yes the car had a coolant leak and needed repair and gladly had the it done, but 2 peripheral plastic bits that were damaged in the course of repair at the cost of several hundred dollars extra is always hard to swallow. The F-Pace is a spectacular car with exceptional performance and comfort in one beautiful package that I absolutely love. So I will chalk it up to
“It is what it is” when repairs are being made and to be mentally prepared for costly unforeseen surprises when the car goes in for service. On another quick note, I ordered new front and rear brake rotors from EBC and will take pictures to post when putting them on. They should dress up the wheels very nicely.😎
