Sluggish acceleration after a long journey - help please!

I have a 2018 2.0 litre ("2.5") diesel F-pace with just over 40,000 on the clock. I'm finding that after a long journey, particularly a high speed motorway journey, I experience sluggish acceleration. The car is very slow to pull away from stationary or low speeds and then can suddenly surge forward - very dangerous at entrance to busy roundabouts etc. and on occasions I've been close to being hit by approaching traffic. On one occasion only, a warning that the car had entered "restricted" mode came up.

A local Jaguar specialist (not a main dealer) has looked at it on 3 occasions; diagnostics have shown a number of problems but nothing obviously causing the problem. He has reset the ECUs(?) and suggested that I take it to a main dealer to see if they can find the problem.

Before I do that, can anyone help please?

Well, if you are the original owner then you should know your vehicle and if it is acting different from new. I have the same thing and it has always been slow and hesitant of the line. That is the lag nature of this vehicle. But it runs strong on freeways and its performance hasn't radically changed since new. Sounds more like normal turbo lag to me unless for some reason your DPF is getting full and not regenerating completely.

Thank you for your comments. I am the original owner and this problem is definitely a new development. The DPF has been mentioned as a possible cause but the guy at the Jaguar specialist pretty much discounted that idea. I'll certainly mention that if I get as far as taking it to the main dealer.

Report back with anything you learn if you take it to the dealer. Always looking to learn something new.

Thanks for your response and suggestion. I have to confess that I was unaware of the Low Friction Launch option and, even if I had been, I wouldn't have thought about it in this context. I've now looked at the Manual to find out about it. If I do deactivate it will that have any other consequences for the operation of the car?

Not at all it is designed to prevent loss of traction on slippery or unfavorable surfaces when moving off from stationary to prevent wheel spin. I have a MY17 model 2.0 litre diesel and it is not sluggish at all on take of when the Low Friction Launch is deactivated I only use this feature when taking off in beach sand or on wet grass, snow and the like.

I think you have some restriction issues, its either exhaust (DPF/SCR) related or possible fuel delivery related. Have you replaced the fuel filter lately? Fuel filters are often overlooked and are the 1st thing that should be changed if anything is running funky. Also dump a can of SeaFoam thru it. Can't hurt anything and usually helps everything!

My F-pace has now been looked at by a Jag main dealer who reckons that the problem was a sticking solenoid in the Vehicle Valve Timing actuator. They have replaced the actuator and so far so good. I will add to this post if, by any chance, the change proves not to have solved the problem in due course. Thanks for your comments in this forum.
