New 2020 SVR owner here - with a twist

Hello everyone -

I restore cars as a hobby, and have had many projects over the years; the SVR is just my latest one. I bought mine from an insurance auction, based just on pics and description, with 9415 miles on it. It was clearly stolen; got into some sort of firefight (assuming LE) and it has 4 bullet holes in it (that I've found so far): 3 which punctures the rear bumper and underlying sheet metal behind the passenger tire (speculating that police were trying to hit the tire?) and one in the front bumper. I have yet to see any further damage. Fortunately, the outer sheet metal is unmolested; I will have to repair the bumper skins (which came stuffed in the rear).

As you can see, the paint is Flux Grey Satin.

Based upon some things left in the vehicle, I believe I know who the prior owner is, and I've sent them a message on LinkedIn (where I found their account) and have not yet heard back. I also contacted a body shop which had the vehicle, but never finished the work due to Geico deciding to designate the vehicle as a salvage (which shocked me). It runs and drives.

The reason I contacted the body shop was that a couple of parts are missing: a couple fender liners, fender eyebrows, inner passenger side interior panel, and rear storage floor panel (which covers the spare/battery compartment). I was hoping to track these parts down. Oddly, it came with a primed replacement rear bumper (which I don't need; I can repair the OEM bumper, but not a replacement FRONT bumper (which would have been nice, as that one sustained more severe damage, though is also repairable).

I come to find out that certain parts for this Jaguar are classified as 'category A', meaning: can only be purchased by a certified Jaguar repair facility. The shop I contacted actually ordered and had all the needed parts. They are now in their storage. They are not allowed to sell them (which sounds ridiculous); they got shafted when insurance "totaled" the vehicle.

I am seeking outlets to buy the parts I'm missing while also still sleuthing for the existing parts that someone had stripped off the vehicle. The shop explained that the vehicle was taken to ANOTHER shop first, partly disassembled, and then sent to their shop (I assume for the certification reason). I am trying to contact the prior owner for that information, as it is possible that I can recover some of the missing parts in that way, but we'll see.

Does anyone know of a reliable source for OEM parts for this special vehicle? I hope you found the story - and the problem - interesting!

Best,

Mike

When I dinged up my left side exhaust finishers and my rear valance on my 2019 SVR, I was able to buy a totally new exhaust and Valance from a Jaguar Dealer in North Carolina. I'll look for the receipt and drop you a line with the URL.

Thanks for that. I ran across Harper online; they use a community parts website that a whole lot of 'official Jaguar parts' sources use. What I'm concerned about is if any of the parts I need are considered a class that only a certified shop can purchase.

Hope not. Meanwhile, I'm still attempting to track down the parts that are missing.
On another note, I'm clearly a sucker for UK SUVs, though I spiffed this one up quite a bit...

Nice do you keep all your project cars, or do you turn them over?

I've kept some; fixed and sold before, but this one may be a battle. Wife wants me to turn it over, and I really really REALLY like it and am going to have a hard time doing that.

Here's another one: a 350z I bought new, got totaled - and then I bought it back from the insurance company and completely customized it:

Question, for anyone who can show me: does the 2020 SVR come with an engine cover?
Huh - interesting. I have the aluminum. And it looks unfinished.
No the SVR's do not come with engine covers. they kept them off due to the heat the engine produces. Early write ups noted that.

What parts are you missing? Do you have the part numbers?

No, engine does NOT come w/ an engine cover

You can email your state motor vehicle ministry / DMV, and ask them for procedures to email the rebranding sector / office, and have them overturn the "SALVAGE" into a clean title / no brand.

(Also, side note, I assume you deal with CoPart, openly stating that you contacted the previous insured / owner, body shop etc goes against the rules of the auction, and they can suspend / banned your account, just be careful!)

Lets see pics of the bullet holes 🤪

Rear storage cover carpet: T4A8017PVJ

Cargo Cover: T4A13461PVJ

Cargo Net: T4A8449

Cargo compartment right trim panel: T4A15422PVJ

Front Right Wheel Arch Liner: T4A13095 T4A35522

Front Left Wheel Arch Liner: T4A13096 T4A35523

Front Right Wheel Arch Moulding: T4A38311

Front Left Wheel Arch Moulding: T4A38306

Fender liner retention clips: T4K4298

Front fender liner pad - right (not sure what this is): T2H40427
Front fender liner pad - left: T2H40428
Front fender liner extension splash guard - left: T4A8112* (not sure I have)
Front fender liner extension splash guard - right: T4A811* (these are ~ $5 ea)

Tie rod end: T4A12527

Right LED outer taillight: T4A37907

Right rear quarter door jamb trim: T4A13632

Right Rear Bumper cover stay: T4A13086

As for bullet holes:

Those are it: one that penetrated the muffler heat shield - but not the muffler, and no discernable contact point beyond; and two that penetrated the bumper skin and through the sub metal and into the wheel well, but with no real harm to anything under (a slight dent in the inner metal behind the fender liner).

Driver's side tie rod is bent from obvious impact with something like a curb. That's about it.

I'm shocked this was totaled. It should not have been - other than to say that a Jaguar certified repair shop would have had to tear down the vehicle into the inner sheet metal to replace a part that only got a ding. Ridiculous.

I got lucky. Now I have to replace the parts that were pilfered, and somehow get that title fixed. You have parts? :)

I never posted pics of the finished product: I had to do quite a bit of repair:

1. Bullet holes through rear bumper skin into the inner sheet metal

2. Ripped from bumper. Rather than buying a new one I repaired the original.

3. Tie rod. Badly bent from hitting a curb or something.

4. Lots of replaced parts that were missing from the vehicle.

5. Rear ride height sensor. I can only guess that the CoPart forklift ripped it to pieces.

6. Front grille emblem replaced with illuminated one. On when car is running and DRLs/parking lights are on.

7. Custom rear caliper work.

8. Repaint/blend front and rear bumper, and lower front valance. This was the hardest part: blending both the color and the degree of matte in the clearcoat is difficult to do, but I have experience painting, so I tackled it. The paint shop screwed up the mix twice: Flux Grey Satin is also a Land Rover Color, but - under Jaguar - they had the TRIM color (Dorchester Grey) listed as Flux Grey. I had to paint it twice because of it. Very irritating.

9. Opted to wrap all trim in Forged Carbon (which matches the OEM paint unbelievably well). That was fun, in a 'this definitely wasn't fun' kinda way. I had limited experience with wrap; this made me an expert.

I'm VERY happy with how it turned out, though!
