Popped the hood and briefly looked. There is no ducting for routing incoming air. It appears to be purely cosmetic as you mentioned. The headlight has a 90 degree rail on the top, which I assume is to catch and funnel rain.

I've had my F-Pace SVR for a month now and I noticed the driver's side of the hood would have a little bounce in it as I was driving. Discovered today, that side wasn't fully closed.
