Another gremlin has nested in my Jag:

The “Electrically Adjustable Steering Column” is in-operative. Activating the adjustment knob does nothing to change either reach or tilt. There is a rotary switch integrated into the knob for “Auto” or manual, but neither position fixes the issue. Rotating this knob correctly causes the instrument panel menu display to flash from “Column adjust” to “Column adjust Auto”, indicating the switch is hooked to the harness.

Pressing any of the three “Driver Position Memory” presets still moves the seat and mirrors, but the steering column stays put. All fuses checked OK for continuity.

After a dealer visit, they ordered a new steering column (!!!) which will be installed next Friday. Meanwhile I’m driving as though I'm on a Hog with gorilla bars.

Any one have some Holy water?

Mine has never locked up per se, but I have noticed that placing the vehicle in accessory mode temporally and then actually starting the vehicle to drive off, the column DOES NOT correctly adjust. It then has to manually be placed into the correct position. After stopping and restarting the vehicle normally the column adjusts fine according to my pre-set. Lucus be gone!

I realize I’m reviving a two year old thread, but I just noticed that my steering wheel cannot be adjusted anymore. I’m not sure when this stopped working. No matter if it’s set to auto or manual, if the car is on or off, or any other thing I could think of. Do we know if there is a fuse that might have blown? It also doesn’t move when I open the door and it’s in the auto position. All memory settings work but the steering wheel doesn’t move at all.

Any ideas before I take it in?

I remember when my steering wheel actuator(s) went out on my 1996 VDP. I seriously thought it couldn't be that hard of a fix. Then I decided to take it to my local Jag guy (The Jag Shop), and asked for the used parts so I could see what it was all about. When he gave me the contraption, it was all these parts and gizmos. I studied it for a awhile and really couldn't make heads or tails of it, and I'm a really mechanically minded guy.... Really funky stuff. I was glad that he did it for sure. From memory, THAT repair was around $400..... who knows what it would be from Lucasland now....

Seems odd they'd swap out an entire steering wheel though...sounds like pure fear to me from the service dept!

Good luck! ?

Nope, it doesn't move at all. It used to but not any longer.
It’s seems like either the fuse, or the motor. Might be the fuse, since there are two motors one for in and out, and one for up and down.
Did you check the fuse yet?

I looked through the online manual but didn’t see a fuse labeled for that. The only steering wheel related fuse I saw way for the heat, which works fine.

Reviving this thread (hopefully) I am experiencing the same issue... (rotating knob changes the message on the dash, but in and out / up and down doesn't work) I also cannot find a fuse for it, anybody have any guidance for that? I've loaded the parts cannon and I'm going to try a new tilt switch first to see if that does it. About $50 for that part so far. Should have it next week to install.

So I pulled everything apart today, and checked the switch with a volt meter. With it set to continuity I think I probed the outer and the middle pin while moving the switch in all directions and I found continuity in all directions, so the switch seemed to be good. I then tried to check for 12v at the motors mounted on the column while moving the switch around in all directions but I couldn't get 12v at the meter... Nothing seemed to work as expected... So I put it all back together and now it works like normal!?... The only thing I did was clean the connectors at the motor with some electrical connector cleaner spray I got at the Auto Parts store. I guess it could have been as simple as a bad / loose / dirty connection at the motor connections. Hope this helps someone.

I'm having this issue as well. Motors all work but the knob does nothing. I was able to get the column to tilt but only for the first couple seconds after you power up the car. It's like the BCM or whatever runs a check and if it finds an issue, it kills power to everything. I had nothing at the switch or both motors, but if you turn on the car while messing with the switch at the same time, I am getting movement.

Going to replace the knob/switch and find out.
