I probably know the answer to this already, and meant to check it out on my recent trip to NYC. I parked on garage level 2, but was dumped off at level 4. Does the Jaguar Remote Directions to your vehicle allow for elevation differences? I was going to give it a try, but forgot, just wanted to get home....

GPS horizontal accuracy is somewhere at 3 meters or less, vertical probably at least twice that (6 to 9 meters), all depending on how many satellites the receiver picks up on. I think iPhones have a limited bandwidth, so maybe less accurate as it is not collecting all possible GPS signals. I know the iPhone collects elevation data, as I have an app that shows this. Likewise, concrete parking lot, signal reduction as well.

Anyone working in high-rise buildings try this from the upper floors?

an idle mind . . .

Yes. My office is on the 21st floor of a building in Manhattan. I left my car in a lot in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. No problem with the remote app.

They say that "RECOGNIZING" you have a problem , is the key to a *Brighter Future* !!! 0:)

It looks like you are on your way , since you are willing to admit this fact !!!

I just hope it hasn't been "idle" for too many decades !!! I wish you well , theweeb !!! ;)

So you are saying that it prompts you to go down 21 floors? How is that expressed?

I think he means the opposite. If your car is on the 8th level of a parking facility will you be able to locate which floor it is on. There are some factors to consider one of them would be does the telemetry system have access to GPS or RF from its location?

My guess is even if GPS were available you would not be able to determine the height in a tall building.

If you are asking whether you can start the car remotely with a window open the answer is no.
Go to bed MKenM !!! This one went straight over your head !!! ;)
I don't believe he was referring to the F-Paces window !!! :)

P.S. Don't worry @Hayseed_FP , *GR* got it !!! And it was FUNNY !!! >:)

Every now and then , my mind (that's always going 100-mph) , wonders what it would be like to just "idle" !!! >:)

I don't think I'm understanding the original question.....do you want to know if the app will direct you to "go up three floors" if say you parked on level 3 and are standing at the ground level? Or does it just direct you to the parking structure and then not specify which floor exactly?
Is that what we're trying to figure out? I think it would be cool if it did the first, someone needs to figure this out!

I'm not "trying to figure anything out" ! I'm just goofing around at theweebs expense !
When I park my car in a Parking Garage , I just usually LOOK at what *Floor Color Code* my car is parked on , and the *Floor Level Number* , and then when I go to get back to my car , THAT information that is still logged into my memory will get me right back to my car !!!

It doesn't figure out the reverse, I was trying to find a branch office of my bank and the car kept telling me I was there, an address which had been verified over the phone with a banking officer. I could see no sign of the bank so I parked and after some asking around figured out I was in fact there, I just needed to go up 46 floors. I tried it on google maps while I was in the lobby waiting for my escort up and it told me I was there as well with nothing indicating it wasn't a ground floor outlet. While I was waiting upstairs curiosity had me trying to get directions to my car parking location that Maps conveniently provides and it told me to walk 250 ft east which would have been about a 45 foot walk followed by breaking down a wall and a long fall. o_O Doesn't seem to me like these mapping programs are taking altitude into account.

Thanks all, even the sarcastic ones. I am not sure how I could have rephrased the question, "Directions to your vehicle - in the Vertical?" plus what I wrote I thought was self-explanatory. Yes, say you park on a level in a 10 story garage, but forgot which level, the directions take you to the spot in two dimensions, where you might stand, looking at the screen, supposedly at your vehicle, when in reality it is three floors above or below you.

As I said, the GPS signal is used to determine elevation, and I think it could be incorporated into the application.

That would be great but I think the car locator uses the telemetry system rather than GPS so I don't think that capability is there.

Interesting, and what does the telemetry system consist of? How does the FP "know" where it is, if not for GPS? Does it use cell phone triangulation? My thought was the FP system uses GPS, "I am here" and the smart phone uses GPS, "I am here" and then it is a simple maps API to figure out how to get from here to here.

If not GPS, what does the FP use to determine its location?

Telemetry uses cell phone data stream. That's why you get 5 years of free "In Control" cellular applications.

And even if it did use GPS, that signal is severely compromised inside a multistory, steel and concrete structure.
