On top of that, we installed the racechip box hidden in the engine compartment and all warranty/standard service have been conducted without notice
That sounds cool, could you please post some pictures / instruction on how to do it?

Definitely. We took a lot of pictures and video and are compiling it into a good "how to". Just gotta edit everything down.

I had the RaceChip GTS Black on my 2017 V6 First Edition for about 1.5 years of the almost 3 years I had the car before turning it in for the SVR. It clearly improved throttle response and maybe added a little power, but since my car was already 380HP the seat of the pants feel compared to the 340 HP V6 was much less. The only issue I had with the RaceChip is that the car about once a month would throw a check engine light for boost overpressure. I had a OBDII reader to reset that code and things just kept trucking. I clearly removed the RaceChip anytime I took the FP in for service. The only issue with that was that connector near the firewall it was a real biach to get that one changed either when pulling the unit or putting it back on.

Interestingly enough RaceCHIp told me I could add the same unit to my SVR if I wanted to to increase boost there. They wouldn't tell me what the HP increase might be but they said increasing boost on the supercharger is done the same way. While I still have the racechip I have not added it to the SVR, probably won't since to me 550 HP is plenty :)

I've been running it (racechip GTS Black with the mobile option) in my 2017 R-Sport for about 2 years now and absolutely love it. I added a quicksilver exhaust system two weeks ago and it's a great package. On top of that, we installed the racechip box hidden in the engine compartment and all warranty/standard service have been conducted without notice - I do always disable the racechip box back to factory settings prior to taking it in though (a great feature).
Thanks again Pullejo ! I have some follow-up questions please:
1) Where did you purchase the Racechip GTS from? (I noted that you are from US but just wanted to compare my options from BC, Canada).
2) Did you add the app option? If so, how well does it work? Worth it?
3) Where did you get the quicksilver exhaust & ? (I used to have one on my ‘14 XFR and it sounded awesome with the 5L V8).
4). Generally, where does it plug into? And I assume it stays plugged-in. So, no trace at all when you brought it for service/warranty for engine-related warranty once disabled? Just simply unplugging it?
5) Did you have to run higher octane than 91? In BC, Canada, Chevron offers 94 octane as SupremePlus.

Thanks!

I know you had the S while mine is the 35t, but at what setting / stage you were running? Do you think running at a lower stage or running it in 35t (which has more 'potential to boost' than the S engine tune) would be less prone to error codes?

To answer Jay, I think I was running it at 3 or 4 setting, I started high, and then slowly stepped it back. It seemed that all settings eventually caused the fault code. So I just started resetting the code since the car ran exactly the same.

to answer your questions Pat.

1) I purchased from their US Corporate site.
2) I don't think the app option was available at the time I purchased it. I downloaded the app afterwards and it wouldn't work with my RaceChip, not sure why though.
3) I ordered the QuickSilver directly from them. Easy order. Shipped across the pond.
4) You can go online and get the directions for the install even without buying it from their site. two jump connectors. you basically put the Racechip in line between the normal wiring harness on top of the super charge near the front of the engine and at the back near the firewall (difficult connector).
5) I always ran premium in both FPaces I owned.

Thanks for the info, very helpful. This is the reason I am still reluctant. While the error codes may not be serious, I will still go panic when I see them and will make me sleepless.

Probably I will wait for a while and go with a tune if I have the car still then.

Finally I did the VAP tune. Just the tune now and probably will stay that way for a while.

I just purchased a 2018 FPace S.

Are these cars worth modifying or not? Seems like the most popular thing to do is change the crank pulley and tune. I see VAP offers a SC pulley too as part of a package but nobody seems to recommend changing both. Obvious question, why do they offer buying both then?

So for anyone that has done the pulley tune, what kind of HP is to be expected up from the 380?

Since you have an S, the worthy upgrade should be Tune + Pulley. I have the 340HP version with just the Tune, which is really worthy and I am enjoying every moment of it.
If you speak directly to VAP, they do not recommend upper SC pulley for 3L V6 F-Pace. They only recommend lower crank pulley. I think the SC pulley is more destined to 5L engines.
Regardless of 340/380, Tune alone would be approx 416HP and Tune + Pulley would be 450HP.

Who knows of any ECU tuning software that can allow you to really tune these vehicles. my goal is to add a port injection supercharger from Whipple along with a completely forged motor. I'm looking to produce 800 wheel horsepower on gas maybe 900 horsepower on E85. I understand I will need to beef up the drivetrain that's not a problem just looking for somebody who has tuning software or something like HP tuners that will be able to tune these vehicles properly.

Hi Ken,

We (VelocityAP) are the ones who have the most experience tuning the AJ133 and AJ126 engines. We have literally done several thousand tunes now. We use HP Tuners only for transmission tuning because it's the only tool that has the read/write protocol for the ZF8, but for ECU Tuning it's totally inadequate. HP Tuners is basic 'interface' tuning, meaning they predefine what you can edit (spark, fuel etc.) but beyond that there's thousands upon thousands of tables in the ECU controlling all sorts of things. One could use HP Tuners for a basic Stage 1 tune, but you could not even add upper or lower pulleys with HP Tuners because it doesn't offer the allowance for increasing the boost pressure. Any additional boost would be bled off and the car would throw fault codes.

In fact, the datalogging capability of HP Tuners and any other generic dataloggers is so superficial for this platform, that is the reason that we actually invested hundreds of hours into developing our own datalogging tool that will actually pull all the PIDs needed to tune effectively and furthermore will sample at a fast enough rate to get useful data.

I believe you have already been in touch with us by email about this. As you know, we have an FTYPE R which we have already begun the process of designing a 2650 blower kit for, including cooling upgrades, in that case some drivetrain upgrades etc. All of this is underway and I share your frustration that we can't just click our fingers and make it happen but we don't do things like this quickly without thorough research. You also asked us by email the question about the fuel system, I do not necessarily believe you would need port injection to get to those HP levels. Certainly there appears to be enough ceiling in the fuel system to breach 800BHP without requiring additional pumps or pressure (E85 may be a different story.)

So to cut a long post short - yes, we have the ability and expertise in house to do this properly. I don't believe anyone else in the world does. We are already engaged in developing this product and all the supporting mods needed to make it work reliably. We are already evaluating engine internals, working on upgraded rods, pistons head gasket/studs, cooling.

Since I am happy with the tune, just ordered the pulley and found a mech who could install it for me. Now the waiting begins... 🙂

Just finished the install and flashed the Tune. Everything seems fine so far. No pulley issues, no slips. The local mechs did a good job it seems. No CEL either (looks like my car has adapted it since stage 1 tune). The car is freaking awesome, the Dynamic + S and paddles seems deadly now. Wouldn't do it unless it is safe and have ample distance. Will post more details after a week.
