Trying to start to use it more, but for the life of us we can't get it to UNLOCK the car. If I place a fob inside and hit the J, it will lock it. But if I go back in a few min later to unlock it and hit the J again... its ( the activity Key) is dead as a doornail. Only way we could get the door to otherwise unlock was the other fob. Anyone else have this problem or are we missing something?

To unlock with activity key you first have to press the button for opening the hatch to activate the sensor for activity key. This is the rubber covered button under the lip of the hatch. I’ve also found you have to put the middle of activity key right up against the J in Jaguar. Not through clothing or anything, rest it there for a moment.

Note it also gets a little lost if the time from turning off the car and then using the Activity key to lock it is long, you may need to open a door or the hatch shut it and then place the activity Key on the J. With that said, I found the activity key being one of the great features of the car that works well consistently. It's on my list for my 2019 F-Pace as well.

@stbentoak - I second what @VZX-CO said here. Plus it only unlocks driver's door. I forgot about the latest few weeks ago when I tried to use activity key for the first time this spring season. I did not forget to press the rubber button but I was checking driver side back door instead of driver's door... It started out as a cool experience after the run when I tried to unlock the door with my cool writsband while few others were watching and adoring my car... but then I looked like an idiot trying to open back door and no luck....

just as a question. Does this key have a battery or a life expectancy? Or is it coded to your vehicle and will work for life..?

I believe it is an RFID chip (radio frequency ID) embedded in the bracelet and is inert, all the smarts/power/etc are in the vehicle. So, yes, coded to vehicle and should work for life with no battery needed. That's my recollection.

The new Key, available on the 21s and later, does have RFID capability and needs to be programmed to the car, just like the 2 fobs you normally get from Jag. In fact, both fobs have to be there with the New Activity Key when they program the activity key for the car. I got a replacement activity key, since I did lose the one I originally purchased with the 21, and they needed both fobs with the car and the new Key to program things.

There is a battery of some sort in the new Activity Key. It is rechargeable and you get a cord with the key when you get it that has a 3 prong connector that is used to charge the key. The battery in the Key last for quite a long time. I say possibly a week between charging. Clearly, it depends on how frequently you use the key. I use it quite a bit with my 21. It's the only fob I carry with me often.

Stbentoak, after writing the above, I read above a bit and I think you are talking about the original Activity Key. That one did not have a battery. I think alll it had was a RFID that was programmed with the car when it was delivered. It only opened the back. I had that one with the 2017 and 2019 and it worked well for both of those cars. However you couldn't use it without one of the fobs the car came with. The 21 and later activity key, is actually a 3rd fob for the car. The 21 and later activity key is what I'm talking about above.

Yes, I was talking about the old one, and yes, I understand about the new 2021+ one as I have both. Totally disappointed in the 2021+ one. Never could get it figured out. It won't stay alive/active long enough to get anywhere with it. Sits in a drawer at home. Even the dealer said it is pretty disappointing...
The 2018 one still works well, just wanted to understand if it had an internal battery or not, after reading all of your replies I am concluding it does not. Thank you all for your help.
