OT: Father's Day

To everyone on the Forum, Happy Father's Day to all the dads, to those who have fathers, and to all who hold fond memories of their fathers.

My dad was a high school dropout. He left school because he was ridiculed by other kids for being so poor he only had one pair of pants to wear. He became a welder, a man who worked with his hands and never made as much as twenty-thousand dollars in a year. But he got married and stayed married and did whatever was necessary along with my mom to support their four children. My dad was far from perfect, but I learned two things from him. The importance of owning up to your responsibilities and taking care of your family. And from both of my parents, I acquired a strong work ethic and values, especially the importance of judging people as individuals not as members of a group, and to always do the right thing.

I am fortunate enough to have *4* children who LOVE me *UNCONDITIONALLY* !!!
YES , they each have *4* legs & a wagging tail !!!
But to see those tails wagging a mile a minute and their bodies wiggling all over uncontrollably and their eyes light up , just when you walk in the door after working all day , is absolutely *PRICELESS* !!!
It is also a pretty special feeling , to know you have a 4200-sq. ft. home , yet 99.9% of the time 1 or all four of them are NEVER , more then an INCH away from your body !!!
And just look at this list of benefits :
1. Don't have to cleanup any Dirty Diapers
2. Don't have to buy them the Latest Shoes or the Hippest Clothing
3. Don't have to buy them a Cell Phone or I-pad or I-pod or Latest Video Game
4. Don't have to buy them Braces
5. Don't have to buy them a Car
6. Don't have to send them to College
7. Don't have to pay for a wedding
8. And last but not least , Never having to purchase a *Security System* is kinda nice !!!

So , for this *Father's Day* , I say "THANK YOU" , to Albert (11), Nitro (8), Puddin' (5), & Herman (11) , for ALL the *UNCONDITIONAL LOVE* you have given !!! And *RIP* Jake, who gave us *15-years* of his Kind Heart !!! And to Elwood for nine months of Love , but for his benefit we took him back so they could find him a home that could give him 100% of their attention , and he did deserved every minute of it !!!

As you can see , I as a Father , have been BLESSED when it comes to having LOVING CHILDREN !!!

And I would like to send a special *HAPPY FATHER'S DAY* out to ALL the other DADS with *4-legged* children !!!

Well said, Trek. My first Father's Day without mine. "When someone you love becomes a memory, that memory becomes a treasure."

Excellent personal sentiments Trek. My father and I have not had the best of relationships, particularly over the last 20 years. However, he has been in hospice 2,800 miles away for three months, beating the odds that he should have been gone two months ago.

As I make mistakes as a father and consider my own father's pending death, I focus on his many positive traits. He never sweat the small stuff and took adversity in stride, always seeing the glass as half full. One of my favorite stories goes back to when I was Senior in high school. I was always the A/B student who never got in trouble......ever! However, on one particular day while studying in the library, a classmate was making noise near me....talking to another classmate. Despite my requests to keep quiet, he kept talking louder and louder. In fact, they were making a transaction.,,,one selling the other a carburetor....(therein lies this story's place in this forum!). So, I got up and we stood stood toe to toe before I pushed him hard into the wall of the library.

Nothing more happened physically and we were both sent home for the rest of the day...suspended. I drove right to my father's business, where he was sitting across the desk from my stepmother. I timidly told him I was kicked out of school for day....he paused, looked at my stepmother, whose mouth was wide open, and said: "Want to go golfing?"

He knew this was a one-off and there was nothing that needed to be done. That was my father, sometimes such an optimist and positive thinker that others considered him a person who regularly avoided reality.

Thank you for starting this thread Trek....typing the story above has been very therapeutic.
